  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Deffinatly something wronge with MsMassPoly's gar, as mine grew 6" within the two in a half months I had it in a 210, and he was already 23" before I got him,

-In a much bigger tank now, BTW

Well for one thing mine was not eating for almost the whole first month. He eats fine now and i have noticed growth, just not the sizes i am hearing from everyone else.he is in with rays or was with rays(they are all sold now)so he has regular water changes.maybe a runt?he still is not very nasty?

Of al the fish I've had, gators are among the fastest growers.

Also, as already extensively said, they will be agressive, sooner rather than later, towards tankmates.

Yeah, my first gator went from 4" to 18" in about 5 months.

Hmmm, perhaps yours is a runt of the "litter" lol both of my gars have grown 12" in a year. Even the one i adopted from a friend (who had him for a year) was foot plus (and growing fast).

My biggest two and half year gar is almost (if not already) 3'. He is not aggressive towards his current mates <fingers crossed it stays that way> but he did kill silver aro during his 'youth" lol.

Current set-up: three gators, two rtcs, 3 paimas and O

If I remember, I do believe your fish was a bit underfed when you first got it which would have affected early growth at a critical time. Not really a big deal and the fact it is currently 17 inches is not terribly bad either. You will not see explosive growth of the fish after a certain point in it's life. They just slow down and this is normal. Your likely to never see the fish get 4 foot long but it is not going to live a miserable runted life either.

If you get a chance throw up a few new pics in a new thread.. I would be interested in seeing it and can discuss this without further derail of this thread...

I had a 9-inch gator gar with two 16-inch spotted/fl gars and a, 11-inch sp/fl gar. in two months the gator gar grew to 13 inches and killed one 16incher and the 11incher within two days...

Im glad I was able to rescue the last florida/spotted gar, but upon closer inspection, I saw that it had some wounds around its belly area...

it's your call, but I'd say don't do it!

I wouldnt do it
not worth the risk on the other gars
