i have an older mirror backed hex tank and i am trying to get the mirror finish off the glass. it isnt working. so i need to cover it.its on the outside of the back glass. i want to put something over the inside of it. im not trying to go do something that is going to take 4 days to make. i need something quick, simple, and effective. any ideas anyone.

anyone? this is getting frustrating and i need some ideas. i am so aggravated with the past few days i cant think straight. ive got a wet floor. a pos mirrored tank half the size of the one its replacing, and no clue what my next move is. on top of it all im sick and should be in bed. i need something of an idea to get this done. please.

Sorry to hear your sick, that sucks!

I saw a post about cork, but that takes a while to season...Why don't you silicone slate to the inside? It's easy to break apart and if you layer it, it'll look natural enough. Plus it is non reactive and ' pardon the pun, dirt cheap!

Plastic paneling might work out, or tile for flooring, again siliconed into place.

One of the other members stated that if you drip some vinegar on the material you use, if it doesn't react(bubble) after sitting on the material for a few minutes, it'll be safe in the tank. Haven't tried it, but the reasoning seems sound!

Lots of fluids, and I swear by those Zycam swabs!

thanks for the idea suggestions. i might try the slate idea but the only stuff i have is rather heavy/ thick. like half inch to an inch. and i just spent the last of my money on this tank to replace the other one and then a new filter because part of the water problem was a filter leaking. there was water in two places on the stand but i could only find one leak in the tank. the second was discovered this morning when i woke up to a wet floor.AGAIN! so i had to buy a new filter.. zycam rules but my fish come first so no money for medicine right now.

Spoken like a true fish lover-no meds for you.

If you had a handfull of amazon swords, that may hide your prob long enough for you to deal with when you are healthy.

Can't slate be split along the edges, kinda like wood?

Besides, 1/2" slate will be fine with silicone adhearing it to glass...If your worried, place an ornament against it once full of water, even if it does come loose, it won't fall on the fish...

Or get a rock from the yard and lean it against the slate. Slate is cheap, the last pieces I got were, umm, accidentally left in the cart and I wasn't charged for them(only smaller tank sized pieces...) from the home depot. Last person I heard of that purchased any it was like $.69...

i finally got all the mirrored crap off. it took over 6 hours. thanks all for suggestions. i just didnt have the money or energy to start a bunch of new projects. now i gotta clean this mess up.
