INSPIRE ME PLEASE!!!!

i have both, and have had everything fresh from african cichlids to oscars, arowanas, discus, etc everything except a hard core planted tank.

both have their advantadges but to say saltwater fish are boring is really retarded, an adult angelfish, grouper, trigger, wrasse etc have much more personality than most freshwater with the exception of some large adult south american cichlids.

the maintenance thing is also wrong, saltwater tanks are just as easy to maintain with the exception of having to mix salt and use ro/di water but that can be automated pretty easily also. filteration with live rock and skimmers makes keeping saltwater fish a breeze.

the expense thing i will agree with for a reef tank, especially sps, you need alot of flow, alot of lights and very good water conditions.

here are some nice saltwater aquariums

who says a planted tank is better looking then a reef.......

really?! its all green...maybe some red and purple plants but its still lame! Coral comes in all colors!!!!

i love saltwater!

planted tanks are works of art , so are certain well designed reefs, or a big monster tank with an arowana and a school of peacock bass and some elaborate driftwood.

but stating ignorance is amusing especially when the people doing it probably never owned a saltwater tank.

Those are some nice pics of real nice tanks. The 1st and 3rd are some huge tanks.

I've kept fresh for years, trops, aussie natves, american and african cichlids, it all just gets abit boring after a while, theres only so many things you can do, so many combinations to try. I recently set up a 15 gallon reef tank for a pair of occelaris and i can honestly say it's the most fun i've ever had with a tank, the fish (imo) are so much prettier, not to mention all the little gems you get hitch hiking on your live rock.
give it a try, you'll never look at freshwater the same again.

I could not agree more here.

The thing that I like about reefing is that there are so many little details and variables. Its something that you can keep working at for years and still not have it right.

I love my big freshwater fish, but at a certain point, the tank is set up, and then all you have to do is feed the fish. Which...with large preds can be fun and interesting, but it can also get tedious.

i only read the first couple pages then skipped to the last, glad some salt people posted up some nice ish.... to all the salt bashers, if you havent ever kept salt dont hate you dont understand. ive kept all kinds of fresh big to small community to aggro, ive also kept alot of salt and salt wins hands down between the 2, ive actually been debating on getting rid of my fresh stock to make my new indoor pond into a shark pond :D
