well got some much needed insparation to get the camera out after seeing the barca and decided to try some no flash pictures of the aurantis . as allways loads of throw aways but a couple of useable ones. you get a real sense of how much blue is in them when the flash is off , normally the flash wipes out 90% of the blue.

the two together in the pic are one of the pairs that have formed . i just hope they go through with it .

i will use this thread to update on there progress and will hopefully get the chance to record detail of a sucsessfull spawning . until now i have had the one of them holding for a few days but then swallowed , iam hopeing next time round they go further.

from what i have whitnessed they start off in spawning ball near the surface then the male guides the female down to a pre dug out cave , they both enter and continue the spawning in the cave , but not in the useuall spawning ball that we normally see , it looked like they where stretched out straight but twisting around each other . the cave is in a very hard to see place at the rear of the tank ,so not a great deal was seen . they started spawning at 20deg exactly . so now iam just waiting for them to continue or one of the other pairs to start , at the worst i may have to wait until next year , but if all goes well would be well worth the wait.

cheers col
