Here are some pictures of the 55 gal tank I'm using after I installed the baffles in it.
There is a two inch gap between each set of baffles. The water will flow from left to right (when looking at the first picture). I will use lighting diffuser to put ceramic media in the first chamber, and have filter floss/sponge on top of it for mechanical filtration that is easily maintained/replaced. The middle will be a refugium area that I will be keeping some critters/fish in, but I haven't decided what yet (I'm open to suggestions). Then the last chamber will obviously be the return pump chamber. Each baffle is 16" tall and there is a 2" gap between the raised baffle and the bottom of the tank. There is then a 2" gap at the top of the raised baffle for overflow purposes, in case any flow path ever becomes blocked.
This was my first time siliconing anything, and since it's just my sump I'm not going to worry about redoing it. Lol. I couldn't get to both sides of both baffles, so I made sure that I siliconed both sides of the raised ones.
For those that forgot, or haven't seen my project before, this sump will be filtering my 220 gallon tank that will house at least one, but maybe two fire eels. In addition to the eels I am hoping to keep 8-12 discus in the tank, and possibly a ray, if I am comfortable it will have enough space.
So, what do you all think about this setup for functionality, since I know it looks terrible? Lol. I welcome any comments/suggestions.
Thank you all
