Im doing the pluming on a brand new 300 gallon and i have a bunch of bulk heads to install here, they all have seals and are brand new as well..... I was told by the supplier its a good idea to use silicon as well as the gasket...... I have never done this before.
Ive installed a few now for other large tanks with just the gasket and have never had a problem?
Is this nesisary?
Also how long do you usually wait with PVC glue before you put water in your system?

I never use silicone. They were design to use with the gasket by themselves. They will be fine without it.

THanks Pharaoh.... This is the 3th or 4th time you helped me out now..... And with the Quickness.....
You are a treasure to this forum ;)

+1 for NO silicon. I've installed a few bulkheads and never used anything but the supplied gasket with 0 leaks thus far.

As for PVC glue - I've put water in it minutes after with no issue. The longer you can wait the better but it's not critical. I changed my overflow setup a while back and had to get it back in service asap so water was in the pipes right away.

I totally missed the PVC part. I typically will wait about 30 minutes. That way, I know everything is dry.

I've hear of people that had leaks because they used silicone, which inhibited the gasket from creating a perfect seal.
