Hi all,

I'm fairly new to the whole shipping across the country deal. Is there any sort of insurance you can purchase in case DOAs? I have heard some horror stories about fish dying due to airline fault and not receiving compensation. Thanks
You are suppose to declare the value, but the carrior usually will only cover it if the boxes are damaged. If the box arrives in great condition and the fish is dead they usually will not cover it. They say you are suppose to pack them with enough oxygen to last 48 hours.

No carrier or air freight company will honor a claim on live animal losses. The best you can get is the refunding of the cost of the freight/shipping.

If you must have insurance, you have to maintain your own (such as with pedigree dogs, race horses, trophy stock, etc.) And be prepared to pay. Such insurance is not inexpensive.
