Interested in a Poly...What type should I get?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes, polys can live with oscars and yes river rock is okay.

But, if the oscar is much bigger, it will try to eat them.

Hidding spots are key for the smaller guys.

I've had an oscar with a sen and had no aggression issues, but the oscar is a food hog and you will need to make sure your bichirs get a chance to get some food. I had to hold food in front of the bichir with one hand and keep my oscar away with the other :P

Well I'm seriously thinking of getting rid of the oscar to my LFS. I do however have a bullhead catfish. Would that be an issue with the Polys? and my LFS has a 6 inch Delzhi for 39.99$ is that an okay price?

In SoCal that price would suck, but up here in Spokane, WA it's pretty close to normal. It depends on species, size and your location.

I have an Oscar and a Delhezi. Both get on fine, rarely see each other actually.
The only slight trouble is at feeding time - making sure the Del gets some food!
We have to chuck pellets to the back to try and get past the output flow from my FX5, so pellets fall down to where he likes to eat.
I always make sure he has something though. He was a bit slow to feed at first, but has got the hang of it now and enjoys his pellets.
