hi. i saw a rope in one of the fishshop and it interests me. is there anything i should look out for if i wanna get it?
it is possible to keep with 2 11inch gar? rope is roughly 15inch.
wat does it feed on? can it eat feeder fishes like wat i feed my gars?
hope u guys can provide me with more information.
thanks. =)

it can eat small feeders, usually at night though, one thing with ropefish and predators is a lot of fish will try to eat the rope (small girth) but will choke killing both, depends on the fish with it, I know gars are more attack only to eat fish. Rope fish diet is pretty much scavenger diet, eating anything meaty on the bottom, frozen shrimp, some eat carnivore pellets, silversides, earthworms, unseasoned raw fish fillets, and the list goes on. Great fish. I'd get one but I've got an ornate with a big mouth.:irked:

They always look pretty bad at LFS, 1/2 dead, or even dead already.

How hardy are they, really? Do they usually perk up when taken home? And how are they with taking prepared foods (pellets, etc) ? WILL they feed from the surface? (Floating pellets) ?
Have always been intrigued, but never tried one as yet, either.

They're just like bichirs. Loosely speaking, they are long bichirs: less active during the day (probably explains why they look dead to you, santoury) and can be trained to eat pellets (but not all can be taught to eat FLOATING ones). They can get sick but are pretty hardy in geeneral.

Thank you, I know what a dead fish looks like.
I suppose I should think that all of my lungfish are dead too? They don't move much at all.

didn't mean that offensively. hope you didnt take it bad. got a lung too.:) a small, 10 in annectens...
going back to ropes, they're relatively nice fishes. try them. :)

No problem - sometimes I take things the wrong way because there are so many flamers on MFK it's not even funny anymore. So... glad you weren't one of 'em. I was just wondering if they are more active in an aquarium, as opposed to in a LFS? Do they settle down well, or are they one of those fish that could "live or die" after taking it home? (You know what I mean)
