I'm a big fan of the Synodontis catfish species previously suggested. Other Synodontis species to consider are S. angelicus and S. brichardi, although I think S. decorus is my favorite. Most of the Synodontis species are referred to by their scientific names, so making up common names, e.g., decorated Synodontis, would only mislead you.
Liosomadoras oncinus, aka jaguar cat, is another good choice that doesn't get too big (10 inches):

Pseudopimelodus bufonius, sold as "giant bumblebee catfish" because it's a lot larger than the 3-inch dwarf bumblebee cats, maxes out around 10 inches:
