mike talked about this before.... it sounds more like a bacteria infection...

Anyone have information on treating this type of bacterial infection?

I had luck treating rays with Triple Sulfa and no ill side effects...

Not sure if that would cure this type of bacterial infection though..

Diagnosis and Treatment in rays is pretty tough.. might take a look at the rays and meds sticky to see if you can narrow it down.

The tip of the female's tail is whitening; I'm guessing it is bacterial. I'm going to look into maracyn.

To be completely honest, I think that you are thinking about this too much. We have all been new to the hobby and god knows I have had more than my share of sleepless nights worrying about my rays.

The spiracle is a modified gill. Gills are generally red in color. You have had some recent issues that may cause some irritation. It is nothing to worry about.

If a ray is eating, it is fine.

I never medicated a ray with anything more than salt. Avoid it if at all possible. Go back to the basics.....

1). Keep your water clean (don't add things, don't use RO, don't adjust the pH)
2). Give them lots of good foods

They'll be fine.

I got the Tiger pair in a vat and I just noticed two nicks on the left side of the disc. My guess is the male did it, but I noticed some red rash-like patches right under that, on the underbelly.

I used Melafix right away, not to mention that I keep the water changes up 50% every other day. My guess is it was ammonia burn in my case, even if I acclimated them, once I opened the bag I felt a slight smell, she's a big girl (17" disc) and the male (12"+) is fine.

im with the others.... salt, waterchanges, and lots of food..

Do you guys recommend a certain type of salt? I remember someone saying he used
Mortons Water Softener Salt, is that Ok.

Did you take the advice and treat 3lbs salt per 100 gallons? If tail is turning white I would say you have not? Just use salt
