I have been looking for a 180 gallon tank for quite some time and today I was able to find a fairly great deal for one. It's a 180 gallon tank w/ dual internal over flows and a 70 gallon sump. I was hoping to find one w/o any overflows since I just wanted to use canister + HOB filters and I don't have any experience w/ sumps. This tank is currently set up as SW and I plan to use it for FW ank. I was kinda thinking of removing the overflows and plugging in holes but that will be too much hassle. I don't have any experience w/ wet/dry filters.

Any of you ever had a similar situation where you bought a used tank w/ overflows and necessarily did not need or want them. Did you ultimately find them along w/ the sump to be beneficial? Or do you feel you should've just got one w/o any holes and overflows?
wishing you a lil close ..i'll trader with you lol

check out my 210 reef ready ...notice that ( 2 intake and a spray bar on the middle of the tank ) that the eheim pro3 2080 ...my water always clean ..
one you go sump you will never go back

Everything that I read on ANY overflow said they were ALL noisey. Like I said, that might not be true but I couldn't chance it.

Volcomstone, if you do decide to not go with the sump you could just use a "U" tube to prevent a leak on those holes in the back of the tank. During your cleanings you could take the water down below them and run a filter brush through them to clean them. If they are high enough on the wall, that is.

i would never trust the HOB over flow ( heard alot of them fail when the power is out ) with the tank that is drill ( reef ready) you can have a peace of mind and if you do it right the tank will not leak ,get a brand new bulkhead and DIY the durso pipe to silence teh over flow noise
