being on the male side of things and i am a fish keeper and my wife is not tho she does have a 75g tank (that I take care of). there are lots you can do with your hobby that do not involve money, once a month sound reasonable to me for purchases. now if your fish keeping is taking away time from him, and when you do spend time you keep talking about the damm fish, (BTDT) you might want to step back and take a closer look at things.

I think people who love their hobby are healthier than people who have no hobby. Does that make sense? I feel like it's human nature to want to invest some personal time and attention to a unique personal endeavor, whether that's softball, knitting, house plants, wet pets, photography or reading.

Maybe hubby has a hobby or needs one.

I agree , but your number one emotional investment in life is your wife or husband. if the 2 can not be balanced then as stated earlier step back and take a closer look. I can tell you that if my wife said its either the fish or me, fish be gone, end of story. It would never come to that, and if it did I trust that she has good reason wither I see them or not.
