1st day - The Trimac would not come near the beani but would would still flare back from afar.

2nd day - Full on gill flaring, side to side, digging. It looks like they wanted to lip lock.

3rd day - The same thing in the morning until I got home after work. The trimac would go from the far left side then swim full speed and hit the divider. The beani got scared and stayed on the far right side and would not even eat.

I had to separate. WINNER TRIMAC. Without a divider, I honestly think it would be a different story but I would never know.

the black nasty vs trimac, next?

I'm not that suprised. Although each fish has it's own personallity and a Beani is no punk I don't think on average a Beni is at the same level of aggressiveness as a Trimac. For want of a better example a Fighter vs a Tough Guy, while 100% of the fighters in the world might not beat every Tough guy the vast majority would everything else being equal. My opinion.

I was gonna say the beani, cause my trimacs can hold there own but are not as agressive as i've heard. Guess some of em live up to there reputation. :)

Did you see how thick that trimac is!? That trimac will win every time hands down
I would not do it though to see actual outcome :D

the thickness of the fish really isn't going to matter much when it comes to intimidation. i can't tell you the number of times i've seen smaller cichlids flare up at and even lip lock with much larger cichlids. it all comes down to the temperament of the individual fish and whether or not they're spawning.

i had a female convict flare up at and try to chase off a much, much larger oscar because she was trying to protect eggs. she wasn't intimidated in the slightest. :)

now if it got to an actual fight, then the size and thickness of the fish would play more of a role but fortunately that's not going to happen. :)

Close up pics. I really like the pattern

The female is ready to breed. I still have them separated.

sweet I was right! I guess I just went with the less obvious choice which was the Trimac just purely on size. I know both are nasty.

yay for the tirmac. i had a couple at different times the female was laid back but when i had a male he was meaner then all getup. now i also voted trimac on the first page but now that you let the cat out of the bag theres going to be alot more trimac votes
