Introduce and 40 gal stocking help at the same time!?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
gsp will eventually need brackish or even full marine conditions. plec's aren't going to do well with that.

ime puffers will mangle eachother. You said you had goldfish in your 20 gal?.. if they're any of the common fancy varieties.. move them into the 40. most Goldfish will need 20+ gallons to themselves. but most of the smaller species of puffers like the GSP/figure 8 would be happy in a 20 gallon for a long time if not life.

hmm.. I was thinking about it cause I cant keep alot of fish with fw/brackish water puffers and they're happy with the smaller tanks. theyre the fully grown size of the feeder ones to tbh.

well so for my 40 gal cause i want it to be the most monster it can be! what should I have in there for life? Im willing for fw or brackish

He he, my suggestion seems so mundane compared to all this talk of puffers and cichlids! I would go for a tropical FW community with schooling tetra's mixed with danios and other small but colorful and active FW fish, then you can have a nice eye catching pleco (or three) with interesting plants and driftwood branches.

Also I have a soft spot for the chinese hillstream loach in a nice FW tank, even if I don't have any of my own at the moment.

AHA I was thinking about going that route too! but i was hoping to see what monsters i could put into my 40 before i just set in stone what I cant and cannot have you know?
my community fw if no monsters are found are probably would be a good school of tiger barbs with danios/dwarf gouramis with 1 candy-stripped 1 starry night and 1 gypsy king pleco. if those work

If you havent bred fish yet its a good time to start :) imo its the best part of the hobby by far. Even in the 20 gallon a pair of convict cichlids would be fine for life and in the 40 you could do Firemouths, angelfish etc just do alil research and get a nice pair of fish and let em do their thang!
