Hey, so the other day after about a year of research I finally went and bought an Arowana as my final fish for the tank. I will not be adding any more, I just wanted to know if over time I am going to have to relocate some of my smaller fish. I currently keep a lot of bottom dwellers but the ones I am concerned about would be my 2 corys a clown loach and also my ghost knifefish, the corys are fully grown at 2years+ as they were the first fish I ever bought, the clown is about 3/4 inches and the ghost would be around 4inch. My Arowana is around 8 inch long, feeding well on small/medium crickets, is there going to be a problem here? Or as hes growing up with them will he not see them as food? I have never kept a predator like this so I wouldn't know, so far he seems the most chilled in the aquarium but I can't see that lasting long when he grows. They are currently in a 340L tank and please don't tell me I need to relocate the arow once he gets bigger, I plan on expanding. Also, should I be supplementing his diet with more than just crickets? Because that is all I can get him to eat, he's that fussy he won't even eat worms. Any help is much appreciated>
The tank currently stocks a huge plec, 10 smaller ones but still well above 3 inch, 4 big hoplo's, a pair of convicts an upside down catfish and a Raphael cat, oh and what I listed above. One last question, would I be able to add a spotted florida gar? I'm not 100% on the idea but ever since I swam with one in Egypt it has stuck in my mind. I tried to stroke a wild one and it gave me a warning snap. Cute but scary (I was only a kid!) Oh and how could I forget, 3 huuuuge tinfoil barbs that remind me of something out of a pond lol.

Cricket's as a staple only not good, regardless Aro will start picking off smaller fish. I would remove cory cats asap due to the locking spiney fins which can choke Aro if he tried to swallow one.

What size tank you upgrading to, I am a big believer of tank fist fish second, and what type of arowana is it

That's fine ill move the corys into a 50L Thank you t lindsey what should I give him besides guppies and crickets? I cannot get him to eat anything else. Although he is still settling in. Tank first fish second? I have 5 setups and a spare 200L and plan on upgrading my 340 to a 5/600 depending on what I can find. But for now the Arow is small, upgrading or downsizing is not a problem here but thanks for the concern anyway. Silver :)

I would say a 600l would be to small for a silver, that's only 6 by 2 by 2 ft not big enough for a 3ft fish

Try starving him for a few days and then try pellets, do your other fish eat pellets if so he should learn of them

Looks like I better just get an acrylic one built especially from down the road, what size would be recommended, 1000? I cannot exceed that as I wouldn't have the space. I have only had him for 3 days, he does not see the pellets as food yet I have tried, but will keep on doing so, thanks for the response Dan

Give him a few days without food, then add pellets he will see your other fish eating them and start trying them probably spit them back out to start with but time and patience it will be fine for a week without eating , it can be hard to wean them off live food

Also look in arowana section of this forum lots of advise and people far more knowledgeable then me

Hes just been a week without food as it is in the shop, I will give him a few days munching crickets and then try the pellet trick, yeah okay then ill pop on there now ty again
