I think this would be impossible.

I have a 90 gallon tank which I take really good care of.

History:

1 O + 1GT and 3 sds (all 1inch in size). = ) too territorial. had to get rid of GT and replace with 2 more sds.

Now my O has claimed all but 6 inches of one side of the tank so the SDs are hurdled over to one side all the time. My o is now more than 10 inches long.

What I really wish I had done is gone for a pair and no other fish.

Is there any way I could do this at this point?

I only have one tank so trial and error would be impossible and I know that you can't sex Os with any confidence.

I'm thinking that this would be impossible at this point.

Any experiences or thoughts?

I could go get that 110 gallon and try this but that's just more hight not more footprint.

For bioload sure that would work.

Take the bioload issue out of this though.

What about territory? Anyone have any thoughts on whether or not another Oscar could be introduced after having one alone for a year?

You can introduce, sometimes it works. I put a new guy in with three awhile back. He is maybe an inch shorter, at 9". They kept him in the corner for a few days, now he just about rules the tank!

if you do plan on introducing another O, i would rearrange anything and everything you have in the tank. that way it will throw off the whole territory problem. another idea would be to keep switching/moving the decor around every month or so to keep them from establishing areas. it has worked for me when introducing new fish into already established tanks.. good luck if you do add another and keep us updated on how it goes

I just put a lil Albino Tiger (3") with a 10" O. The tank is 96x48 so the big O is not cramped for space. I wouldn't even have thought about it if the tank were a smaller foot print.

I still have to watch the big guy like a hawk, since the big O may not get territorial until the little one gets to sexual maturity.

yeh i think maybe if you get another big o it would be fine:)

I think you have already answered your own question "I only have one tank so trial and error would be impossible and I know that you can't sex Os with any confidence". Trouble is until you have the new Oscar you wont be able to tell how things are going to pan out. One way would be to divide the tank into two with a hole through the divider only big enough for the smaller Oscar to fit through, Another option is to see if your LFS would maybe take your existing Oscar in px for two little one's and let them grow up together (depends on how attatched you are to the 10 inch Oscar). Maybe not the reply you were hoping to get but i'm only trying to be realistic.

Thanks for the replies.

I think I did no the answer but a breeding pair would be awesome.

A tank divider might be the way to go. I was thinking I'd get another that was the exact same size but I would need one of the oposite sex or maybe a female if mine is also.

Even then there is no guarantee.

Problem is that i'm already attached to my O having raised him from the time he was 1inch.

Anyone else got any ideas?

nope dont
