Hey everyone I'm new to the website. I came here because I'm getting so obsessed talking about my tank that its driving my wife crazy and I think I'm bugging the local pet store owner 😄. Check out my tank would love to hear what you think! Before you say it, I know the tank seems quite populated, but its actually very harmonious and I dont really plan to add unless I have some casualties.

Welcome.
Your tank is not sustainable as is.
The fish you have could probably not be housed properly and long term in a 300gal tank. Just one oscar fgrequently is too much in a 75g, let alone with other cichlids.
The single red hook dollar is also not quite suitable for a 75g, and they do best in groups, which require a much larger tank.
I hope others offer you input, and suggest you consider what is/are a couple of smaller fish you like most, and stick to that. If you want a community, a 75g limits you to much smaller and less territorial fish.
A 75g is a very nice tank, in fact one of my favorite size tanks, but what you have in it is way, way too much.
Sorry for the bad news, and good luck.
PS. Your store is doing you a dis-service sellong you all those fish to be lept in a 75g.

Absolutely beautiful setup and fish, but I’d agree with the other poster that this tank is too small for the size and amount of fish you’ve got in there.

I’ve just started keeping a Flowerhorn Cichlid by itself in a 75 gallon tank and some might even say that is the bare minimum for a fish that is only a few inches smaller as an adult than your Oscar will be.

I think this is the perfect excuse for you to get a huge tank! I’m interested to hear if anyone suggests what size community tank you’d need for all of these fish.

Thanks for the compliments!

Yea i know its pretty (ok, very) full, most of my fish are still juvenile and for now its peaceful. Ive had aggression issues in the past when i had some similar cichlids in a 29g. But havent really had any issues since I moved up to this 75. Definitely went a little crazy stocking it, but I've been able to keep up with the bio load no problem, I do frequent water changes.

But anyways yes now I am discussing a new tank with my wife, even if its only a 55g to spread out what i have in the 75g. I have also thought about rehoming the oscar, starry night, or one of the blood parrots to cut down on some of the big guys. That fish store the other guy said was doing me a so called "dis-service" is great about letting you trade in fish as they outgrow your setup, I've gotten to know the owner pretty well over the years and they are a great resource.

Having the ability to responsibly/easily re-home if needed is great!

FJB mentioned a 300 gallon and that got me thinking, if you were open to that size of a tank, I wonder if something like this rough stock list might be workable long term? I’ve never done anything even close to this size and am probably making some incorrect assumptions with this stocking list but it was an interesting thing to think about:

-Oscar
-Starry Night
-Blue & Electric Blue Acara
-2x Blood Parrots
-2x Platinum Parrots
-Polar Parrot
-x4 or x2 Turkana Jewel

As a side note, really like the HomeHawk feed into the tank. May need to look at doing something like that for mine as well…

Yea thats probably a good arrangement. I dont think i can swing a 300g, but could possibly look at doubling my current size to a 150g or so and splitting the current fish between those tanks. Most likely I'm going to end up transitioning over to the smaller variety fish over time and swap out the big guys for smaller varieties. But until I have a problem on my hands I dont feel any rush. Side note my oscar is like 10yrs old, so idk how much more hes even gonna grow or how much longer he'll be around.

Thanks yea I did some searching around for what camera people like for their tanks and that one seemed perfect. Works great too, the only drawback is I'm constantly tinkering with the tank layout near the camera for the best shot haha. Good problem to have
