No he doesn't... Don't know where the idea that sunlight makes devils more red, came from.:) I read that in the wild the reddest specimens can be caught in the deepest darkest parts of the lake. I think its down to genetics on the most part with diet playing some part aswell. But you'll never get an standard RD or Midas or MidDevil red by diet alone. Genetics is the main feature.
 
I think that sunlight could possibly enhance the fishes potential ;)
 
Thanks... it was actually the cloudy green water... you couldn't see anything in it. The tank was in direct sunlight aswell.

When I have a bloom like this I reduce light time, feeding, and do more water changes. This will clear everything up. I have one tank by a window and always have this problem when the day light is longer.

Great looking fish. They have the most intense red I have seen.
