Thanks guys I'm very happy with them these are the first two i've kept and it looks like i have found a new love in my gars.

Thanks, yes they are the same gars from my id thread. I picked these up the same day that the batch came in and they all looked identical. The fat one I kept since the day they arrived in Perth and have been feeding frozen food since the first day and as you can see he is a very good eater. The other one has gone through a few different owners and none of which have successfully weaned off live feeders so that is why it is alot smaller, a fussy eater.
I have already successfully got him to take quite readily take white bait and he now picks them off the floor.

Just had a look in the tank and the smaller one no has a nasty tear in his tail and a big bit missing! Hope it doesn't get any worse

this will happen from time to time w/ multiple gar in one tank. it will heal and probably happen again down the road. no big deal.
keep an eye out for lymphocystis, which can be transmitted with the bite (will look like small-medium sized bumps near the damage), this is one of the main concerns with the frequent shredding of fins when multiple gars (or other comm pred fishes) are kept together, but even that is generally a harmless (albeit somewhat ugly) virus that will clear up once it runs its course.
if the damage persists to where fins are actually removed, or close to it, i would separate the gars and reintroduce the small one once it's a bit bigger--

nah, i get that just about every other week/every couple weeks in my tank with the big gars. that will heal up before you know it. if it gets a lot worse (like down to the base of the fins, or in this case, the caudal peduncle (the fleshy base of the tail fin), then you should consider separation. for now just see how things go...IME, when a new gar is introduced into the fold, they are often times iinitially shredded as sort of an 'initiation' into the group--
