Hey everyone... I have never really gotten into Fhs because I always thought that they were sort of Man-made and they never had a real value. But now, after some AMAZING pics... I WANT ONE!:naughty:

I was thinking about keeping a Fh with my dempseys because they have amazing color and I think it might look nice.

Also, Is there any ORIGINAL type of Fhs? like before people began interbreeding with them.

How do you get the good fhs you want? do you just keep breeding with a fish over and over again?

Since they are sort of "different", are there any problems with them? i.e. shorter life, and such

Are they accepted well in the fishkeeping hobby? (Meaning like are bred and sold easily)

And are there grade levels? like I think I saw of zz? im not sure what that meant

Thanks!

Flowerhornrus.com, you'll learn a lot there..

But to answer a couple questions..

Flowerhorns are VERY territorial.. and most can't be kept in a community tank.. unless it's EXTREMELY big... even then, it'd be tough..

THey are bred easily, but only top 15% of fish turn out to be quality fish.. rest are low/mid grade fish..

They're pretty hardy fish.. and can live in many different temps, water levels, etc.. but best would be 86 degrees F, pH 7.0 - 8.0(recommended 7.5 - 7.8 by a lot of master keepers), originals are not as beautiful as the Flowerhorns of today, but I've been told mine is an older based Blue Dragon Zhen Zhu..

But flowerhornrus.com is a good site to learn a lot about 'em. There are a lot of different strains.. ZZ = Zhen Zhu, one of the more commonly kept strains.. but ZZ branches out into more variations..

Here's a picture of mine...

Hope this helps a little.

Yeah, I just didn't add it because Vanz's front page is full of info.. and after going to FHRUS, I'm pretty sure, he'd find FHUSA...
:iagree:

I have heard from 55-75 for a single specimen.

it depends since some of the older ones could get about 16 inches while some today are bred to be smaller and could be kept in a 55 gallon tank.

shoot for a 55 at the absolute least by themselves.
