Invasive Goldfish feeding a Zoo (neat article)

Win win in this case but I still can’t understand why people dump pet fish into waterways to begin with. A while ago l, I saw a guy reel in a foot long pacu out of a local lake thats also inhabited by a large colony of convicts and tons of plecos of all sizes who were making pits in the side of bank

I've luckily never had to do this but if I have a fish I need to get rid of and no one will take it I will painlessly euthanize it long before I consider tossing it into my local pond. It's not just the fish being invasive it's all the rando bacteria they carry too.

Also zoos tend to run on super low funding, any quality free food is good.

I think people dump things because they weren't educated about adult size or aggression or breeding capacity, end up with stuff that's just not good for their tank, and don't realize you can usually call local fish stores, vets, etc. post on FB or whatever.

i lived by tahoe and some of the lakes over there are overrun with muskies, apparently ppl would catch them where one would normally catch naturally occurring muskies and drive them down and release them in local lakes so they wouldnt have to cross the country for pike, they basically cleared out or out competed the native fish

in my own town someone wanted a koi pond but didnt want to do the work to put it in themselves, so they released koi and comets in the local park's pond and that was a fantastic **** show, the pond was fed by a creek that ran through town so within a few years you could find them all up and down the waterways, once the birds started getting involved and transferring eggs
