How about using a battery isolator that will allow the secondary battery to charge while the car is running, but separates it from the cars system while it's off? I've used continuous duty golf cart solenoids for this when I was doing car audio and it worked well.

With that method, you could just hook it up to the secondary battery and not have to mess with it (unless the car will be of for quite a while).

they make a solid state device like this for marine use as well

I've used those as well on Jeeps with winches, but the cost and simplicity of the solenoid make it a hell of a lot easier lol.

never heard that one
so a golf cart solenoid will cut off power to second batt when not running?
and will charge 2nd batt when running?
and whats quite a while?lol

recharge is good idea
but costly and then gotta keep recharged.

and that thing in link
i hook that to my battery then 2nd battery to it,thats it??

the isolator allows two batteries to be charged when the car is running and then draining one ( inverter) doesnt drain the other ( car starter)

not even talking about inverter,is that all i would need to make my truck duel batteries?lol
my truck has low power, would this help me?
or is that setup only good for running other stuff or charging a battery?

Nope. There is a switched wire that connects the 2 batteries together when the truck is started. When the small wire is energized (when the truck is running) it completes a circuit that connects the 2 batteries together. So if you use this to connect batteries you'll still only be cranking off of one of them. You could just wire the batteries together in parallel, but they would have to be the same age/type.
