Im pasting this crappy tired question I asked on an itunes site. Can anyone here help me? #1

80 gig Ipod
My friend gave me his old Ipod and he got a new one.He got a 160 I think, its silver and grey. The box says its an I pod classic.Anyways,Ive got a nano already but this one is a 80 gb classic. So this one when I plug it in I get do I want to sync it.Here is what I do want.I want to plug it in,take some albums and delete the rest.IF I cant, then I just want to delete the entire thing and empty it out and then use this one for my car and keep the nano for the gym. So,what are my options and how do I do it?He said the albums I want I can just get from him later if I need to empty this totally for it to work.I hit cancel as far as syncing it,and then clicked on this ipod and it would show me this ones info but not its music, actually it kinda showed me some of my playlists.

I'm very confused on ur post.... what is exactly the problem??

I have to say that i'm a proud owner of an Ipod nano for 3 yrs.. and i STILL dont know how to delete one song from my ipod without reformating it..

I want to delete everything but a few albums off his old ipod altogether. If I can, transfer them into my library on the laptop. If I cant.I want to delete everything in his old ipod and start fresh, adding my own stuff to it.For now it is my new 80 gb ipod, and I want to fill it with all my crap.

In order to add songs/albums they must be in your itunes library as well. If not they will be deleted. If you look through your library, just check/uncheck the songs you want/dont want. Then sync it and you will have the selected songs.

No no no. There is a trick. You CAN rip songs off of an Ipod....

Basically, the song folder is a hidden folder. ( I am assuming you are on a PC) Go into my computer. You will see the ipod. Doubleclick it, click on "tools" at the top. Click Folder options. Go to hidden folders. Click the "view hidden folders" thingy. Refresh your page. You will see at least 1, possibly more, folders pop up. Go into itunes, add those folders to your library. That will put all of his music onto your comp. Then, go through all your music in itunes, and delete all of the music you don't want.

This is currently the only SAFE method of getting someone else's music off their ipod and onto your comp. DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANY PROGRAMS THAT DO IT FOR YOU.

what if I just want to clear his out totaly and start fresh.

Then you just sync. What will happen is it will delete all the songs on his, and put all of your songs onto it.

Ok, so, now you want to have different songs on the nano and the 80 gig? This is trickier. You have to go into the Itunes' settings. Set it to sync only selected music. Then, select all and sync your 80 gig. Then, unselect all, and select the music you want on your nano. Sync that. Hopefully it works...
