Iraqi catfish part 2

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
things are going good, havent had much of a chance to get out and do more fishing as we have been busy of late and the dust storms have been rolling in one after another. i did some research on this cat and found out that it is an introduced species and that it is causing serious harm to the tigris and euprhatis rivers. it is eating the prey fish for indiginous wildlife such as the tigris barb among other predators. one interesting thing i learned is that the locals who love to dine on carp, will not eat these catfish even though they are coming up as the majority of fish caught by fisherman. they are destroyed and left to rot. this fish suprised me when it was pulled out of the water because it immediately reminded me of the wallago catfish that johnptc has/had with his 10,000 gal community. ill post more pictures as soon as i get back out there and catch more interesting things. take care all.

The one Johnptc had was my old Wallago Attu. Attu's have more pointed noses/mouth. The one you pictured is round and is a sirulus glanis.

Any fish that eats bacon has a special place in my heart

yeah i know it wasnt the same kind but it reminded me of it, so i looked up the wallago attu and tried to find similar fish in its family that would match what i had in the pictures and i thought that i may have found it in the Silurus Triostegus. its coloration looks about the same plus i found some research papers online that stated that this was the species of catfish that had invaded the waterways here. just thought it was interesting, i could be wrong tho this is my first time actually trying to research a specimen online...usually i just ask you guys. :D
