be carefull im shure it has old tank syndrome. plopin it in your clean water could kill it.
i thought about this long and hard. he cleans the tank 3 times a week. water quality is bad, but it could be worse... my plan is to skip a WC on the my tank (every two weeks) and put him in after a month of nice and dirty. right now i have the water level in my tank about 6"from the top so there is less water and more concentrated s***, so i'll pretty much have s*** squared by the time i get him..:ROFL::D. and a week after i get him i'll take out another 3" of so out of the tank and then fill it upa few inches form the top..

good idea bad plan???

I think you will find that the fish is just dealing with high nitrates and probably a very low ph. If ammonia or nitrites were present(surface area for bacteria is insufficent) the fish would be long gone.

This fish in the wild ( and in aquariums with adequate space) will usually reach a max of about 36 inches or 3 feet. I hope that yours has not had its internal organs affected by stunting. I will post a pic of what looks to be a fully grown one. They are a very beautiful fish. I hope you enjoy it. I still have to say that even your tank may eventually be too small for this fish. They are diturnal (active during the day) which means that they are not your average catfish which is nocturnal and is more active at night and prefers the bottom. They need lots of swimming space. They tend to spook some times and any rock or ornaments in your tank may injure them when spooked. Just to give you the heads up of what you may have gotten yourself into. I have them myself (still very small) They have moved the heater and the thermometer with their behaviour. Ihad to put a guard on the heater and put an outside thermometer on the tank.
I will post a pic of what seems to be a full grown adult.
When the proper tank and space is provided for these guys, you will grow to love him. They can be hand fed and are prefer veggies when older like yours. They even love to be petted. Check out www.youtube.com and look up pangasius hypophthalmus or irredescent shark and look at the videos.
Take care,
Tammy.

wow look at this paronn shark!!!.jpg

I Finally got the big guy in this weekend and to correct myself i got to ask him how old he it was and he said "my mom had himfor a little over two years, and i've had him for a over three years" so it's for sure at least five years old possibly six took measurements and it's right at the 22" mark very healthy a.k.a. nice and plump:D
I've noticed he has redness on his nose and onl the lower part of his tail. the top part of his tail is good but the bottom is not as rounded and the top (probably from rubbing the bottom the the front part of the tail there is a little redness and the bottom of the base.
i've also noticed that he finds one corner that he likes and just stays there ( tail at the back, facing foreward) he has a few inches from his head and glass but he seems more comfortable in a cramped area..:screwy: i guess he's used to that.

i was afraid of this as well but for now 210gal is beter that 30gal.
as far as the stunting goes i believe that he might be and i was kinda hoping that he would be so i coul house him with plenty of room for a while. or iuntil i could find a larger home from him... as far as i know my tank is bigger than everyone elses...:(
