When i bought my ID he was 5 inches and that was 1 yr ago never really seen him eat much during that time for about 7 months.. from 7months till now he has grown 3 inches and eats like a beast his belly looks like is pregnant when he eats now.. I think the krill did the trick since i have two clownknifes in the tank I guess they were not letting him eat.. Now that i feed the clownknifes silversides and the id krill he seems happy

My ID is about 12 years old and about 14"...he is extremely picky when eating. Sometimes he likes floating pellets and flake, then won't touch them. Sometimes he likes sinking pellets, krill or regular chunks of shrimp. He always keeps me guessing. Anybody else go through the same thing.
12 years and only 14". do they grow that slow or only yours has grown that slow

Yeah, very interesting to know what is the size of the tank he's been for the last 12 years. I just bought a 25 incher who was in a pond and was transferred to a 70G. He's about 7 years old. 14" in 12 years sounds stunting has occurred.

I've had a couple for 3 yrs. They have more than tripled their size to about 20". They started in a 55 and are in a 300 now. They eat whatever is put in the tank. When they get to the food they eat it...top, middle or bottom.

They seem to vary greatly with their growth rates. I had 2 small 1.5"ers that I put directly into a 750g tank and within 2 yrs they were ~2 feet. I just picked up 2 albinos from a friend that are 6" so it will be interesting to see if I can duplicate that growth. These 2 seem to like to eat pellets off of the bottom.

Am I reading this right? You have a 25" fish in a 70 gallon tank?

I read that as though you were the one to have stuffed that poor guy into a 70 gal. However, I've read one of your threads, and realized you have that great indoor pond and you actually rescued that poor thing out of a 70 Gal.

I got a 14" ID with the 150g plywood tank he was raised in about a year ago for the school that I teach at. He's a very picky eater and only eats massivore pellets when he feels like it (2 or 3 times a week). He hasn't grown any in the past year, either. I'm not sure what to do to get him to eat better, I've tried shrimp, krill and bloodworms and he never touched it. I do 10% water changes each week. Perhaps more tankmates will help. It seems like some are good eaters and others are not.
