I'd never buy a full-grown fish in Thailand. thats because almost all of them have been trained on feeders.

same about anywhere...walk into a lfs around here, and you will see feeders starting with babies. I know my achara catfish was on feeders, and took a LONG time before he'd eat just about whatever, and whoever wouldn't fit in his mouth.

Has to be at least half the size of the catfish, or fairly aggressive....my 9-10inch flowerhorn actually picks on my 2' achara
