I am having a stand fabricated out of 1.5" angle iron with a thickness of .25". Here is a diagram of it. I will have my 75gal sump tank underneath it sitting on the floor so no extra weight will be on the stand. I though about putting a leg in the middle for extra support but then it will be hard to service my sump tank. So i decided to go with the 18" braces you see here. Basically when it is complete the stand will be a iron box; i plan on skirting it with a wood shell to give the illusion of a wood stand. Tell me what you guys think? Will it support the weight?

thanks for the input anyone else?

wow 36 views and only one post..... Come on guys!!!!!

I too have no first hand experience, but I would think that you would need a lot more bracing. I know 1.5" AI at .25" thick is pretty sturdy but........... 2 tons is a lot of weight. I would think that the person fabricating the stand will have some good input for you.

PS. Pics when done would be cool.

I personally would go with square tubing not angle. The 80" span is going to need verticals coming down. Minimum one oin the middle. So you would have 6 vrticals in all. and run 12" long diagonal gussets on all outside corners so there is no way weight can shift from side to side. I would not chance what you have so far it needs to be beefed up

No. Our tank is probably between 2500 and 3000 pounds, and 3" tubular steel was recommended for the stand. We are going with 2.5" tubular steel with lots of vertical support and cross bracing. Our engineer checked our plan and said it would work. There will be 1" marine grade plywood between the tank and the stand.

That's a lot weight to span 80" with no support in the middle.
If I was building it I would add two up-rites.
Make the end panel removable and you can slide the sump tank in. Cover it and put doors on the front.

My 120 gal stand is made of 1/8" thick angle. The tank is 48x24x24, there is no center up-rite. The stand is very sturdy.

It's cheaper to overbuild the stand than risk having the tank explode.
