is an iron stand even necessary for an 300 gallon?

I would recommend building a wooden stand. It would look much nicer and cheaper in the end.

Also you can build a wooden stand as sturdy as you want.

note taken i have decided to go with wood :headbang2

mrwinkle: after conversing with badoleross about tank construction and the types of material to use and to choose from, I followed a thread of his which has a wonderful stand made of wood. Below is the thread that I followed and has some wonderful detailed photo's of his stand and tank build. I thought you might take a look at it to get some ideas as to the building for your tank stand. I hope this thread helps you.

I'm sorry there was so much controversy about your metal stand build, but I must agree, the wood stand is a much better choice in my oppinion. Once you have your stand done, you can enclose it and trim it out and make it a nice piece of additional furniture to your home.

Here's the thread link from "badoleross".

My first build in a long time!

I might suggest too, to contact badoleross if you have technical questions about his stand construction. FYI, his tank that sits atop the stand shown is a 315 gal. I think. Enjoy the thread.

Best regards,
