I don't know if there are any Tractor Supply Companies around you but I know they carry a fifty pound bag of catfish pellets and it only cost about 20 bucks. It might make a good staple food although I would still mix it up every now and then with the shrimp and veggies. Hope this helps. So very true. Read any new thread, most will have at least 5 of his posts that repeat themselves in some way or another, or they will have no point at all. I thought only I noticed.... :D

Personally my largest will only eat sinking pellets. He tends to just doze thru the sand shoveling it in, and they are 3.5mm and 2.5 mm (the pellets not fish lol) I mixed my cichlid and fry pellets together now that we have no fry lol.
My little ones will eat everything, but they seem to take away swimming around trying to get it.
How did you get them to eat from your hand. Mine won't eat from it, the just tend to hover in my hands and nudge me when i am in the tank.

since day one, when they were 3-4 inches long, i've had my hands in the tank constantley. whether it was rearranging things or hand feeding my fire and tire track eels. they just get used to it. i can actually pet them. two of them rub on my hands kind of like a cat rubs on your legs. i know it's bad to do that to much because you wipe off their slime coat, but it's still very cool. when i get a decent digital recorder i'll post a vid during feeding. it's ridiculous how these fish act. my fire eel will even stick his head out of the water and make a smacking noise with his mouth during feeding.
i guess you just have to spend alot of time with them.

I have a 30" ID, had him 17 years, he's over 20 years old now. I feed algae pellets, and massivore pellets, every other day. I also have a 14" ID that has grown about 6 inches in the 4 months I have owned him. They both do very well on this pellet diet. I have my LFS sell me the algae pellets bulk. the cost is much cheaper. I also love the WOW factor. I carry pictures, not to many people believe me fish tale.

Wow, thats really cool. I thought I had my hands in a lot, but maybe I will start doing it even more. I did a WC last night, and it was the first time my biggest ever played with my hands so much. I had taken the long gravel tube off since the piece that turns the water flow on and off was cracked and was losing suction. He immediately kept following the hose around and kept swimming between my hand and the hose. The baby was still shy, but was watching the big guy. I was really happy just for that little progress.
