I seen a 24 inch (maybe more) irredescent shark(Pangasius hypophthalmus) at my lfs today. i never seen one so big. any way i want to get him and put him in my 135gal.(72x18x24inch) by himself. is this tank too small for him?? the previous ownner raised him from a baby in a 55gal!!! as well the price on him is $100cad(tax inc) is he over priced or is it a good deal? im not sure as i find these fish to be very common. thanks..

I see them all the time down here. But their only like 2-4 inches, and they cost about $5-6 bucks. He sould be fine in your 135, but the price is up to you.

How old is it? Do you have any idea?

Lets just say they grow beyond 3 feet, and you'll need at LEAST a 1500G tank to keep him correctly at that size. They are fast swimmers thus needing long tanks. The 135G is no were near enough space. It would even be able to turn around.

ARE you even in your right mind? The WIDTH is 18", he is 24". Think again.

agreed, how would you like to live in a house with 4' ceilings?

WOW....:screwy:

I totally overlooked that.

1500G......basically a swimming pool

swimming pools are 5-10000 gallons

He would barely be able to turn around your tank.

Almost every irridescent shark I see that's over a foot long has a messed up nose from bumping into the tank constantly or startling and hitting the glass :(

And IMO, irridescent sharks need a bigger tank than would be adequate for most fish that size because they're VERY active swimmers and they'll startle and hit the glass HARD if they don't have enough room.
Not the best aquarium fish in general, but especially if you don't have a massive tank.

I miss my iridescent. First fish I ever got. The LFS guy didn't tell me how huge he got, not how spooked he would get, nor how fast he would swim into the side of the glass, or anything of the sort.

Poor little guy got up to four inches, but he kept knocking himself out on the glass of my 29 gallon. Of all the fish I could have gotten as a first, that was just an awful choice. Of course, I don't buy fish at that store anymore. Sure, I'll do some homework now, but it's nice to just talk to someone who has half a clue if I'm already going in the store for something else.

well, its a good thing i asked here first as i was going to get him. im very happy i didn't. never thought about him being able to turn around. just thought that since the tank is 6 feet long that he would be fine....
