irresponsible Local fish stores?

For all you know it's some schmuck running it from his 2x2 garage. Asians have been keeping fish since the dawn of time. Westerners love to judge and tweet about it. Which is the more evil, the irresponsible LFS or the irresponsible fish owner ? if you were shopping for a TV at bestbuy would you want to sales rep to tell you, sorry sir, but we can't sell you that big screen, because it's too big for you.

Like i said i wasn't bashing because he was ansian he just happened to be asian. I understand the business point but i don't understand the lying! I mean if i don't ask by all means sell it to me and make money but to lie and give false info! And the other part is they don't sell quick! They are in a low low traffic shopping center with no signs or ads indicating that they are even in the shopping center (not a mall) or anything. Also like i said the stores TINY. No people buy much from there at all. The centre mostly consists of old people (and i mean a lot) and middle school children and it's located in a area near between the poor side with high crime and middle class. No big business going on there. Also the fish are there for months by no means they sell fast lots of them die off. Another note how do fish stores keep there fish from growing? They had jags in there since august and the last two just died off last week (i personally saw the dead fish) and they were between 1.5-2" the entire 6 months! SO ya i have many reasons why im not impressed with the store and quality fish but im addicting for browsing fish and like i said its the closet! Only reason i know off it is becasue i went to the shopping centre for lunches in my middle years and now i go on a bi weekly schedule thats why I have such deep opinions...

Edit: also the tanks aren't that clean usually full of that red stuff thats in the gar pic and all powered by sponge filters btw
 
They keep doing it, we keep buying them. Sometimes you just kinda have to look the other way. Their trying to make a living, and we're trying to let a fish live. Its a win-win situation.
 
theres a place by me that is horrible! the biggest freshwater tank they have is probably 30 gallons and it has a HUGE black pacu that is the length of the tank and there is stuff just floating on the surface like bioballs and crap that looks like it fell in there they have tanks so dirty you cannot see through them and you dont know whats inside theres skeletons in every tank it smells horrible they have cockroaches no lights the workers are sitting watching tv all day and the only time they get up is when they cant see you and they start following you asking how many fish your going to buy and why your there and last time i was there she was taking stuff out of my hand as i was looking at it (a bag of food) thats just the freshwater isle... the salt water is pretty bad also dead and sick fish in all of the tanks they have a moray eel that is probably 3 foot in a 20 gallon tank and they want like 3 thousand dollars for it! that place is just sad im sure theres a few things i am missing but you get the point!
 
To me, it's a difficult position. On one hand, a store needs to sell stuff to stay in business. However, I think it's wrong to sell a RTC or pacu or whatever to someone who is going to put it in a 30 gal. tank. Is it the store's responsibility to ensure this doesn't happen? I think they should be up front with people about what the fish they are buying is going to turn out like, and hope the people have enough common sense to make the right decision. Or, they can operate like the East Bay Vivarium. They question each person EXTENSIVELY before they allow them to buy a snake, lizard, or whatever. If they think you can't care for it properly, you don't get to buy it.
 
I don't mind when I go to the fish store and I ask for a certain fish they ask what size tank is it going on or what other fish u will be housing it with?? It makes me think they actually care or they just concern about bringing back a dead fish the next day....The thing that gets me is when they ask u all kinds of questions and yet they have a few floating dead fish..knowing that they will be headed to a better home...once I got asked to bring a sample of water when I was buying an oscar....

In Hong Kong you see it a lot of the time... a lot of shop keepers have no interest in fish, its all just a business to them... now a days its a lot better where a lot of the shops that specialize in certain things / areas know what they are talking about... but there are still a lot that sell a load of random fish who when asked about their stock, can't really give you any solid info and pull stuff out from their rear-end...
