I had this in another thread but decided to post it on its own. Is it safe to have a 300g tall tank 96x24x31" tall made with all 1/2" glass? I am looking at the glass cages 300 tall and thats how its made. I was looking to see if I could get another 2" front to back but they told me that they can do 1/2" glass as long as I dont go over 24" front to back...if I want anymore I need to go to 3/4" all around. So is 1/2 enough for the standard 300tall they sell? My 240 from them is 1/2" and the same footprint but only 25" tall. I need to order tomorrow if I am going to get it on there next delivery trip.

I had a 300 gal acrylic with the same footprints....it was 1/2" all the way around and it bowed like it was pregnant....i had to get rid of it because i couldn't sleep at night wondering when it was going to explode....Just be careful what you order

can you tell how many months its in with the pregnant as well :). The older the acrylic the more it will bow.

lol....it was an older tank....it scared the heck out of me

Yeah from your chart it looked like 1/2 was not enough but the bracing might make it enough. So I'm going to give acrylic a try. 3/4" all around except 1/2 on the bottom. Just need to think about how I want to attach my fx5 filters.

Most people build acrylic with a top. I've never worked with acrylic and the calculator is based on info direct from the acrylic companies themselves. Gl

I would use at least 5/8" at an absolute minimum. 3/4" is preferred up to 36".
