Is 39.25 too many turnovers per hour??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
im about to have

a tetra 30-60
Magnum H.O.T
20 G sump
2 AC 110s
and a XP1

All on one 55g tank?! 5 different filters, at least 10 or 15 types & sizes of media, and a full power strip just for filters? You've been looking for the "overkill threshold" for awhile & that would definitely get you there... I'd save my money & stick with the sump & 2 HOB's personally. Just my .02. Ditch the Tetra's & throw the extra AC110 on your 20long.

I haven't used Tetra filters in many years so it is very possible I simply haven't heard of it... and since it's no longer in manufacturing I can't find details about it online...

Personally I totally ignore the "Up To XX gallon tank" recommendations on filters as these are misleading to say the least... considering media style/volume and flow rates is a much more reliable/realistic way to "judge' a filter...
I don't disagree with you there... Just letting you know there is a (tetra) Whisper 30-60, and why it is called a 30-60 (though i'm sure it goes without saying).

I'm fairly certain the turnover rate is 240gph... Which is why I use one on my 29g. Not really a bad filter for smaller tanks. It does what it's supposed to.

My tetras are rated for 330 GPH

The Tetras may be rated that high, but the design sux & the cartridges are crazy expensive. There just isnt enough capacity.
