For that posted ammonia chart the posted ammonia concentration at various pH/Temps is way off and ass backwards. The ammonia numbers should be highest for the higher pH and/or temps. It is the reverse on that hart. Moreover, pH is way more of a factor than temperature.

Finally, ammonia is usually measure at Total Ammonia (TA). This is the sum of both forms ammonia takes in water- ammonia (NH3) and amminium (NH4). Most of the TA in water is NH4. Here is a link to a page where you can input total ammonia concentration, temp. salinity and pH and it will tell you how much of the TA is in each form. http://www.hamzasreef.com/Contents/Calculators/FreeAmmonia.php

NH3 is considered to be as much as 100 times as toxic as NH4. Knowing inly TA and not how much is in the NH3 form will not tell you when you have an ammonia problem that needs action on your part. Just as an FYI- the level at which NH3 starts to be a problem is 0.05 ppm.

If you keep SA cichlids the same level of TA as rifties, ammonia is was less harmful than if you were keeping rift lake cichlids instead. I was able initially to bring altum angels into an uncycled tank at 4.1 pH. Ammonia was pretty much irrelevant. The tank did did cycle itself and I had no issues from the start.

Dam thats one hell of a Temperature Delta from the house to the tank. I know you treat ick with heat at temp higher then that but I would not want to if I did not have to just because the fish can survive dose not mean it is thriving I still think you are days away from that, but what is the long term solution? All this is from a UV what size I have a 75 watt I think and i never saw it have an effect on the tanks temperature.

i expected the heat from the amalgam bulbs (2-90w) but the 57w aqua ultra violet did not expect -

my systems are pretty buttoned up - lids and such -

Are you sure a bering in not going bad on a pump or something? 250 watts should not heat that much water up. Even a wavemaker or a heater that went bad. when I was treating ick I had to get it to 88 and I needed to go buy more heaters and I already had 2300 watts. And my wife likes it hot the house is 72-74 degrees if not more at times. I had lids on my tank, 75 watt UV, pumps too, don't know how good they sealed. The math just dose not add up if your heaters are not on you have a pump, lights and wave maker right?

pumps are all new L2’s

i’ve got two mp40’s on the bigger tank - the smaller 280g’s dont have a wave maker but have lots of flow (3000gph)

i’ve got fluval lights everywhere ?

If it was happening to me I would turn some stuff off to try and get to the bottom of the problem.
If you know what is causing it that is the first step to resolution. Personally I gave up on UV a long time ago.
Not saying that's the problem but if you can find out what is causing it you can figure out a solution.
I would also check for stray voltage out of curiosity. I had an issue with my oscars so I checked for stray voltage and found the heater was the cause. It heated the tank ok but this heater was not ok. Lot's of stray voltage even when the readout said it was off. In fact when the heater went on there was less stray voltage.

It's funny you say stray voltage I was gonna say that because I know in prison you stick the 2 wires in the cup to heat up your water lol But I would have thought if it was heating up that much water he would feel something when he sticks his hand in the tank

ya it’s the UV for sure

going to trickle cold water to off set the heat -

need to find a device to turn on when temp rises vs turn off - my temp monitors will turn on if get if cold - need something to turn on cold water when gets too hot -

But how? 60 watts should not heat up that much water if 100% of it was turned in to heat it should only heat tops 180- 200 gallons 10 degrees above abiant room temp. And not all of it is getting turned in to heat, I don't know how efficient UV lights are. But even at 50% that's only 30 watts of heat and I think they are more like 80% or better efficient.
This is something I found on line down below. I am not saying you are worng I am just trying to understand this. I had a hard time getting my tank to 88 it took 2900 watts for 700 gallon. Also when I use my UV light and it dose not even make a difference. I had mine unplug for months and I just plugged it in on wensday and have not seen an increase in my water temp at all mine is 75 watts.

What Size Aquarium Heater Do I Need? The general rule of thumb is 5 watts (W) of heat per 1 gallon of water if a) you need to heat the water up to 10 degrees
