is a 4'x2' tank good for jardini

This is an 8x2 footprint. The hole in the back and the line in the lights are the half way point. Imagine that fish in that half of the tank.

The problem with jars is that they are not as flexable as blacks or silver and this necessitates a wider tank. Start thinking in terms of 3 foot wide rather than 2. A 240 is 8x2x2 and be a great home for a silver but a jar needs the extra width IMO. I saw a 6x3x2 at a LFS that someone ordered and then refused that would be perfect.

I used to have 2x26" Silver and 1x24" Jar in my 6x2x2 tank. I had to sell my 2 Silver to make room for Jar, and I thought the tank still small for him in term of width. I wish I could go with 6'x3'x2.'

I would say 180 (6x2x2) is the bare minimum for up to a 24" jar. after that, at least a 300 (8x30x2)

IMO: 24" Jar = 180gal 6'x2'x2' min. ...24"+ Jar = 6'x30"x2' min.

Rallysman: how big is your Jar in the pic? ...and thats a really nice tank buy the way.

That's a big fella. I'm hoping my current jar which is in my gold com will grow huge as well.

thats huge!
so a 12 to 13 inch jar, can be house temporarily in a 4 footer?
temporarily? for 6 to 7 months, from 12 inch, it wont grow double its size in 6 to 7 months.

any feedback?

that size would be fine in a 4x2x2 for a while, but you'll need to upgrade. This fish is about 4-4.5 years old if that helps.
