Is a Jaguar Cichlid Monster enough?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They don't get to a huge monster size but most have a monster attitude.

Jags are monster, record sizes over 20", but probably much less in a home aquarium - expect 14" to 16" max.

I kept a Jaguar for a few years with a few Convicts. It was about 2 inches when i acquired it, and had it till it reached 8 inches.

Mine just hid behind a rock never bothered the convicts, until it was feeding time, then it would come alive. It was pretty amazing how it would strike at the food. So quick.

What size tank did you keep jags and convicts together? Thinking of setting up something similar, but need to know what size tank.

Jags are more monster than some of the "monster" fish in here. ;) :grinyes:

Their face looks like a mean ugly monster too. ****in ugly. Totally badass! When they open their mouths........

Jags are definately monsters, they are about as monster as I would go. Sure there are dovii and some others like bass n sh@t, but seriously if I wanted something that big I would just go to the lake n catch myself a smallmouth bass. Jags are the ideal monsters not crazy big but not small either, and they are fun to own. I'd like to have a 120 high. oneday, with a 12"+ male jag alone. A fish that cool deserves it.

If my Jag is a male, grows big, becomes too aggressive for my Oscars, I might have to choose it over the Oscars as a Solitary beast in my 90g. :(
