Is a wave maker necessary?

Not necessary, but it gives you a nice amount of circulation, helps with airation. And if you get the right one you can vary the current and point them in the right direction to get everything perfect. I've got a pair of 20K lph powerheads in by 440L tank.
Do keep the pair on the same side or on opposite ends of the tank with one higher and one lower?

Used to be opposite sides one higher one lower, but with the current tank the wires aren't long enough. :grinyes: So, both near the top, one pointed a little up the other one down. They have a light sensor that switches them off when it's dark.

Nice I'll look into those if they are not costly
