Does anyone know if all PFS is silica sand ? I've heard that silica can cause brown algea issue's if it introduced into a tank ... I have PFS now and continously get brown algea on it no matter what I do.... And I'm gonna be setting up a 300gallon I don't wanna have the same issue's... And yes I like my white sand... I want white sand that won't cloud the water when a fish swats its tail but I also don't want brown algea all over my white PFS.... Thought bout mixing white play sand with the 100lbs I already use/have in my 140gallon, what do you guys suggest or think ?

I have pfs in my 150 and have never had an algae problem is the tank vertigo any direct sunlight?

Like my lights are hagen GLO t5h0 one 10,000k bulb and one actinic 420 bulb replaced mid summer which didn't help at all have them on from 315-915 everyday, I do weekly water changes of 75% my tap water has 1ppm phosphate in it I know phosphate contributes to brown algea but would 1ppm be enough to make the problem this bad ? Like if I feed less it isn't as bad but if I don't feed the fish enough they get aggresive towards one another haha I've tried decreasing and increasing the length of the lights being on nothing seems to help at all... What about a UV sterilizer ? I even tried phosphate/nitrate remover and it didn't do a damn thing

What brand of pool filter sand are you using?
I have Quikrete PFS + t5ho with 10K stock bulbs (lights on 10-12 hrs/day)
My Synodontis/Bristlenose Plecos keep it pretty clean though - they're constantly out, mowing over every inch of the tank.
