hey everyone i have a fairly new tank (2 weeks, still cycling) and i want an aowana(at least i think i do) there is one for sale at a lfs and he wants 50$ for it, it looked like a black arowana but he said it was a jardini?? (are there black jardinis??)

he was about 6 inches i would say

the tank is 120 gallons 5' long 2' deep 18" wide

i also want to keep 3 oscars (possibly 4 depending on another post)

a green terror

possibly a flowerhorn

and possibly an electric blue dempsey

will these be suitable tankmates?

how long will it take for him to outgrow my tank?

what is there i should know about an arowana before i get one?

jardini and tankmates can be very bad. other than that i can't really comment on the others. i know gt's are slow growers and the only dempsey i had i didn't like, was the most timid fish ever so i sold him.

Tank is way to small for all those fish. Aro will probably outgrown that 120 in 1 to 1 and a half years. You could maybe do some of those other fish without the arowana for life. And Aros grow really fast. If it a Jardini they can be really mean, they are the most aggressive aros.

All jardini aros are the same color, some may be light or darker than others. It can grow 20"+ so a wider tank is needed. Most jardinis can be aggressive and can only live solo, but there's a couple/few members here that has been successful with tank mates.
Usually if it can fit his mouth, he'll eat it.

No.. its a jardini.. so its not as bad as Silver Arowana...

a 120 is OK for 6 months.. then u better start thinking about upgrading..

180Gallon is ideal.. but.. aim for a larger gallon size...

and for the jardini.. its either 1 fish ore and odd number for arowana.... only then are jardini aggressions lower...

well i dont have money to upgrade to a larger tank and would like to keep him for at least a year and a half before i have to relocate him and i want other fish in there so i probably wont get him

is there another species that isnt as aggressive and will do good with tankmates?

usually aro + flowerhorn is not a good combo. Neither is keeping like 6 agressive fish with an arowana. Plus your tank is too small and all other aros pretty much grow at the same rate if not faster.

drop the stocklist and get some bichir and spotted gar. :naughty: get the gar small and you'll have a while.
