Is an arowana right for me?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
silver arowana growth rate is fast... my 4" arowana became 10" and now 12" in 4 months...

As for jardini.. is about the same.. but they dont get as big as silvers (30")

Black Arowana are smaller than Silvers.. but about the same growth rate...

if your interested.. try African arowana .. i've never kept one.. but i konw they aren't as aggressive.....

Gar is a possibility.... :)

no you need a bigger tank

oh opps.. i didn't see that it was a 120 gallon....

Ya.. get a bigger tank.. 180gal is nice..

I don't agree....IME a jardini and a black's growth is nowhere near that of a silver.

This :iagree:. If the width and height were switched around I would say you can grow a jar out for a while but that's not the case. Just my opinion I've seen people do a lot worse.

the answer to your question is NO a aro is not right for u at this point in time with the tank space and tank mates! maybe further down the line u could pick up a 180+ tank then go for it dude!

yea but to small lol

usually aro + flowerhorn is not a good combo. Neither is keeping like 6 agressive fish with an arowana. Plus your tank is too small and all other aros pretty much grow at the same rate if not faster.

ive succesfully kept my 18" silver with my breeding pair of flowerhorn for the past few months.... no problems whatsoever!

he was about 6 inches i would say

the tank is 120 gallons 5' long 2' deep 18" wide

i also want to keep 3 oscars (possibly 4 depending on another post)

a green terror

possibly a flowerhorn

and possibly an electric blue dempsey

I would stay away from FH with other tankmates.. they are extremely aggressive and in a 120 there is not enough space for territory.

I say forget the FH and Aro and the rest of your list should be good for a long time if you buy them as Juvies.. three O's may be pushing it though.. you would have to see how they get along when they are big.
