Is an EBJD compatible with a Senegal Bichir?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thats what all my fish are in right now... seperated in 2 20G and he just got confused because i have talked to him before about the fish...

And why wouldnt the RD and Oscar work?? they been living together all of their lives and not a single fight yet... plus the oscar is bigger

Our red devil juvie was about ready to kill our green terror, oscar, and was even harassing our jack. We got rid of him. I think they usually just end up being a solitary wet pet that needs a large tank for a lot of people. Which is fine. I wish I had a big tank to keep just a red devil in.

How long has "all their lives" been? Our Cichlids become FAR more territorial as adults than as Juvis. It is very common for young fish to get along for months on end and then suddenly cross a line and become far less tolerant of each others company.

Red Devils are well known to be viciously territorial and intolerant of tankmates. They aren't called Red Angels ;)

and the bichir is MAYBE 4 or 5 inches and the EBJDs are nothing but babies... barely over the 1.5" mark
I had a 6" sengal in with four 3" loiselle the sengals mouth looked like it couldn't swallow anything bigger than a large guppy. One day I found one of the loiselle chewed up like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with nothing but the crust left over. Point being the fish don't have to be small enough to swallow for the sengal to eat. My sengal is fine with other fish that are considerably larger. I think it'd be a great mix once the ebjd's are 5-6"

All great points. Also to note, oscars are NOT aggressive fish when housed properly. My thinking is they get that rap from people trying to keep them in 30g tanks with 4 other fish. Head to head they really aren't that tough, compared to other similar sized cichlids.
