I only have the room right now to keep a 55 and could get a used fx5 for 100$ with no media.

I already have a AQ 75 & an eheim 60 gallon canister on it(forgot the name).

If so, what's the best filter media for it and where could I get it?

Ill be growing out a wild Oscar from rapps in the tank by the way.

As stated as long as the fish doesnt mind the strong current you can never really over filter.

the filter is almost as big as a 55.......in a word yes it is overkill ...but....for $100 and if the fish dont mind the flow....it will be fine.. gonna take A LOT OF MEDIA to fill it ..but you wont need to fill it to filter a 55.... 1/2 filled should do it...

I don't think it's overkill as long as the fish is happy and doesn't mind the current. I had 2 ac110, an eheim 2026 And an aquatop cf400 on my 55 before I moved everything to a 75.

thats some serious overkill ...even on a 75....:)

Go for it. Throw a few pads in there and it'll slow down the flow considerably. You can also valve down the flow at the output so you could literally put it on almost anything.

Ive never encountered problems with over filtering. And trust me i OVERKILL but im a severe over stocker so i need it. Best part is filter clean out day :nilly:
