Is any one using Hel-X media ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks my search on mfk showed your hel-x filter. Does the media look like it is clogging up on the inside ?

It would be good to have some hard numbers too. If K-1 will process .25 kg a day per 50 L. what will the same ammount of Hel-X process ?

Seems like reinventing the wheel........

I've seen multiple manufacturers claiming to out perform K1, have more surface area, moves better, cheaper...... BUT the thing I fail to see is someone else making the "chips" that are used with the K1/K3.

Seems to me that while everyone else is trying to make better media Kaldness has already moved on to the chips, and when someone figures out how to mimic the K1/K3 then they're just going to have to do it all over again and figure out how to make the chips in order to keep pace with Kaldness.

I'm in the same boat always looking for improvement but decided a long time ago that until there's no debate about a media outperforming Kaldness I'm sticking with it as my main source of bio. Am learning very fast though that it can't be your ONLY source of bio cause boy does the stuff hate meds. I just had to set up another reactor to deal with the floating issues that arise when using meds. The media will float on the foam caused by the meds actually allowing it to dry out once enough floats and it locks up (quits tumbling)

I tend to agree with you DB there are mutiple manufactures of media that boast claims of being the best BUT I am not above mixing media and mutiple types of filtration either, who knows maybe Hel-x and bio chips might be more effictive that K-1 and Bio chips. That was just an example.

I have asked Tyne valley aquatics on facebook and by email to join in on this discussion. Lets see if they will chime in.

They have sent me an email stating that they will not post on any forums.

It seems a shame to me, We will never know the potential of this media other than in small scale diy filters. :-[

I chose to try the Bio motion from Tyne valley because Hel-x is like K1 and I wanted to try something new, it works better than the plastic media and much, much quicker.

I tried hel-x and it looks like good quality but is abit to heavy for my liking and took a hell of alot to get it to move effectively
