This is a pretty stupid topic, however I feel that it is something that I feel quite strongly about. Eheim is a good brand, don't get me wrong but whats with the green? I mean, its fine if the filter housing is green as it can be concealed under the cabinet but why do they have to make the hose inlet and outlet green? I don't know about most people but I try to create an environment for my fish which mimics a natural environment, I usually use a black back drop to hide all the ugly wires behind the tank. The Jager heaters look OK and can be kept quite low behind some rocks of driftwood, but whats the point in going to all this trouble when BOOM there is big green outlet that is sticking out. The hoses just look awful too. I mean, you could go and buy their modular outlet and inlet accessory but seriously..... why can't they make nice subtle looking outlets.

I will almost always buy Eheim, as it is high in quality, however I am tempted to buy an FX5 because its got black hoses and inlets! I know it probably won't last as long but at least its black!

Is there anyone else that feels my pain?

Regards

Dan

Fish can't see in color so they don't care that it's green.

Eheim makes the tubes green so they'll easily be obscured by plants.

If the green gear really bothers you tubing can be changed.

So I guess my answer would be no. I don't feel your pain. I buy eheim for the quality rather than the aestetics as I can change the aestetics if the pump works. If the pump fails prematurely, who cares what it looks like?

I've had a FX5 running for over a year now, make it a year and a half with not one single problem (knock on wood) it all depends on how you have things setup. I guess I am one of the lucky ones with this filter.

i personally like the green color of the Eheim tubing. i think it looks cool

Why wouldn't the FX5 last long?? I heard they are the best filters.

Pardon me...but fish definitely have color vision. Probably not the same as humans and other terrestrial species, but they do have abundant cones in their retina and that means that they can distinguish colors. This is precisely why many fish are so brightly colored. Species lacking color vision (such as large land mammals) tend to be much more monochromatic in color.

for the same reasons some people NEED to drive a bmw, mercedes, land rover etc etc ;)

Being an Eheim user (2028 x 2, Pro III x 1) I don't like the green too much. They can make them black, but i feel that' s part of their trademark. I'm experimenting with Krylon paint (dark gray). I'm letting it soak in my used tank water to see if it changes any of my parameters. But being that all of my tanks are planted, I'm not too upset.

You can always buy new fittings. The hose is easy enough to spray black. The fittings that go in the water can be replaced. MY pro 3 came with a black spray bar and intake strainer assembly.
