Fish can't see in color so they don't care that it's green.
Eheim makes the tubes green so they'll easily be obscured by plants.
If the green gear really bothers you tubing can be changed.
So I guess my answer would be no. I don't feel your pain. I buy eheim for the quality rather than the aestetics as I can change the aestetics if the pump works. If the pump fails prematurely, who cares what it looks like?
As a product designer I spend most of my days developing products which strive to achieve a strong aesthetic and functionality while maintaining a high level of quality. So in answer to your question... I care! And a few other people it seems. But you know, we are all entitled to our own opinions and if you like it than it works out well for you!
I guess I just wanted to stimulate some conversation about it as I have been setting up a 150g and I went to a lot of effort to make it look natural, but then I added my Eheim and it stuck out like a sore thumb.
I just thought that most people are keeping fish because:
1) They enjoy the challenge of looking after them
2) They like to look at them (which inherently means they are looking at the backdrop as well)
You said youd buy the product for its functionality and quality but dont you think it would be nice to have a product which has everything? Aesthetics, functionality and quality? I mean, you pay big bucks for the Eheims, and the unit themselves are usually design masterpieces but I just wish they had nicer stock outlets. I guess Eheim and most other filter companies allow for modification and accessorizing so its not all that bad.
I was just wondering if anyone actually liked the green on the hoses and outlets, as I know many people have many different tastes! But i just cant stand the green...
Nether the less I will probably stop my *****ing and go and change the inlet and outlets at some point to suit my aquarium environment.
