Doing my CV now and i'm trying to do a personal statement. What would be a good personal statement? I am trying to get a job as an animal technician in a university. Also, what skills are relevent?

google it, you'll find some decent examples. there are also plenty of books if you're serious on making a good one. you can also pm me your email add i'll see if i can dig up any old templates

oh yes, there's a difference between your cv and a job application. you need to know which one you are intending to do. usually you'll need both, at least that's how it works here

You need to think about the skills you take for granted. Being on time, integrity, like to keep a smart appearance, your technical skills that can translate to this job such as welding means you can follow plans and you can work to pre-determined tolerance's with technical tools (good manual dexterity), you may be a fast learner, work as a team player or by yourself.
In your current job do you plan your jobs from receiving to finishing, ie are you involved in the project management side of the job. This means you have good organisational skills.
Think like an employer and what you would look for from your understanding of the role you are applying for. You only need a few lines for a personal statement because chances are they will not read it. Employers tend to skim to see if you job hop, your skills/qualifications, are references availible. 95% of apps don't get past this stage because they are too long, scruffy, print too small, very bare, etc. You need to stand out, I know one guy got a job because his CV stood out as it was on yellow paper so the employer took the time to read it, in amongst all the white his stood out like a sore thumb.
I will have a look tomorrow for some templates for you if you like?

Don't forget a cover letter. A good cover letter. Often, employers won't even look at the resume, if there isn't a good cover letter included. Sell yourself.

hey i'll make u one if u want :)
