Nah not about you. I think it was a collecting thread where someone mentioned that they do eat polys in that part of the world. They don't even descale them, they just cook them scale side up and use the scale as a serving dish of sorts.
 
I have eaten many cichlids, from my aquarium, and in nature.
I had a large JD that lost an eye, and was getting picked on, so became breakfast one day, and others I don't recall from over the years. Where I live now (Panama), cichlids are a staple, everything from Vieja maculacauda to the introduced Peacock bass. Some friends were fishing on Lake Gatun, and caught boatload of Cichla not long ago, we received only part of the catch and they easily fed 4 people.

of course some of the ocean fish are more convenient, and we get 4 meals out of 1 fish
The embrera people seem to like the smaller less oily cichlids like Vieja, easier to dry and preserve..

There was another thing about polys being on the menu :p
 
Festae fish sandwich....... Hummm
Some Tartar and fries, Who knows maybe pretty good.
I am kinda getting bored with them. lol
