Definitely stress

I know the signs of when my fish are stressed and this is definitely not a stressed fish... I think if Ad Konings and other references I've researched that say barring is perfectly normal on females and a show of dominance on males, people should stop telling me my fish is stressed when he is perfectly happy, eating, showing off and never shows any signs of being "stressed" I can assure you.

I have yellow labs - 2 groups from 2 different sources. All of the fish from one source have no barring or bearding at all. Almost all of the fish from the other source have barring and bearding.

I'm going to eventually cull the poor ones.

You can have yellow labs that look good, but it is hard to find a really good strain. Any footage of yellow labs in the wild that I have seen - do not have barring, but I don't know for sure if the barring is a natural thing or something that has entered the hobby through hybridization, etc.

What I do know is that mature yellow labs with no barring at all, just great solid yellow, and good dark black on the fins are some of the best looking fish one can keep.

Talk about ad konings, I'm going to see him here in ohio pretty soon. Ill make sure to ask but I'm almost positive its stress. The whole oca says it is.

oca is ohio cichlid assosiation.

great would love to have a direct answer from him, too bad he isn't on MFK to answer all our questions lol when is he coming? Also if your able to print out a pic of my electric yellow feel free to bring it in and ask him if he looks normal ;)

I have about 14+ yellow labs. Some have barring. Some don't. Some also have blue faces like peacocks. I think it's b/c they could've bred with zebras.

Interesting.
I have been breeding Yellow Labs for quite a while I have have zero Labs that have barring. Sub-dominant males, females and juvies...none of barring.

Although not a good picture by any means, here is a pic of one of my females...

that female has all the markings of a male, even the black slant on the eyes and if you look close you can see faintly the stripes/bars underneath the yellow ... good looking female though! where did you get your original breeders?
